Katie Carmona recently joined RRS as a trial and appellate lawyer.

Katie’s legal career affords her unique qualifications to provide insight and advice on the inner workings and practices of the federal judiciary. She provides her clients with valuable local counsel support on intellectual property and complex business cases in the federal district courts, and she is highly skilled in motions practice and trial preparation.

Katie served 20 years as a career law clerk for the Honorable Lee Yeakel of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas. Katie also clerked for the Honorable Robert Parker and the Honorable Fortunato (Pete) Benavides of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, the Honorable Sam Hall of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, and the Honorable Stephen Capelle, U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Western District of Texas. Earlier in her career, she served as a staff attorney with the Texas Third Court of Appeals. Her previous experience in private practice includes handling products liability, insurance defense and regulation, and labor and employment issues.

Katie offers clients experienced counsel handling complex trial and appellate cases related to intellectual property, constitutional issues, election law, contracts, securities, criminal law, administrative law, public utilities, ERISA, employment, and general civil litigation. She is adept at legal research and writing, statutory construction, discovery, and local state and federal rules.

Outside of work, you’ll find Katie spending time with her family or running. Katie is also a member of The Bar & Grill Singers, an Austin-based mostly acapella singing group comprised of practicing attorneys who spoof themselves, judges, and the legal profession.
