David Rodriguez is a partner at Richards Rodriguez & Skeith LLP, whose practice focuses on mergers and acquisition transactions, business law and tax law for all types of entities, including limited liability companies, corporations, and various forms of partnerships. He currently acts as outside general counsel to a number of technology companies and other growing companies throughout Texas. He also helps clients with various controversy issues before the Internal Revenue Service.

David gained valuable experience in receivership law from 1994-1999. As an attorney with a prior law firm, he assisted the Special Deputy Receiver appointed by the Virginia State Corporation Commission in various business and insurance matters relating to the receivership of Homeowners Warranty Insurance in Arlington, Virginia (“HOW”). Work included assisting with initial takeover of HOW, evaluation of employees and related issues, assistance with claim adjudication and defense and assistance with a large transaction attempting to sell or merge HOW and its related entities. David also assisted with monthly reporting of all HOW-related receivership activities to the Receiver.

David also assisted the Special Deputy Receiver of Fidelity Insurance Company in Virginia in litigation matters involving a director and officer lawsuit and assisted with monthly reporting of all Fidelity-related receivership activities to the Receiver.

Mr. Rodriguez became a licensed Certified Public Accountant in 1990 after receiving his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin in 1987. Following graduation, David had the unique opportunity to serve as a Revenue Agent for the IRS, including an assignment with the Service’s Criminal Investigation Division. IRS Criminal Investigators scrutinize complex financial crimes relating to tax evasion, money laundering, narcotics, trafficking, organized crime, and public corruption. His particular assignment involved in a large, multinational task force created to investigate and prosecute members of a large illegal drug organization.

Following his service with the IRS, David enrolled in law school at the University of Texas at Austin. He felt a law degree was essential to give him the tools to help him represent various sizes of businesses, both in the early stage and as they matured, in various complex transactions. His law degree has functioned as an excellent complement to his tax and accounting background.

David has lived in Austin since 1983 and has deep roots in the Central Texas community. His involvement in local activities allows him to spend time with his three boys coaching baseball for the Oak Hill Youth Sports Association and enjoying theater performances with his family. His most recent achievement has been his election to the Board of Directors of the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce. David has also helped with Meals on Wheels and at the Ronald McDonald House.
